Expert beekeeping tips with Robin Dartington

One of the great features of the Beehaus is that you can divide a strong colony in the Spring to stop them from swarming. In this film, expert bee keeper Robin Dartington takes us through his Beehaus where he did just that. We look through both sides of the Beehaus to find out if the artificial swarm has worked and if the new colony has produced a new Queen. As he’s inspecting, Robin show’s us some of his tips and tricks such as lifting and turning frames with ease, how to clear bees off the comb and marking a queen.

  2. dividing a colony is not a form of swarm control never has been and never will so its rubbish to say it is and very misleading to say so.

  5. Smaller bees don’t get tracheal mite.
They’re also more natural. Large bees are man-made. A natural colony, given enough vertical space, will produce comb with different size cells and produce different sized bees depending upon the requirements of the hive…apprently.

  8. they just make little cups at the bottom of the brood frames in case they have to make a new queen, it’s perfectly normal..unless there is an egg in it. Now if this was an opened queen cell it would have a rough rim, from it being chewed open, so the queen could escape.

  14. Your bees appear to me to be larger bees. I hate to see the tiny bees over here in the U.S. Are the English trying to downsize the bees to teeny tiny bees?? So sad to see these too- small bees working my apple tree. What is your opinion on smaller bees? I hate them. What do you think the advantage is to have smaller bees?
Loved the vid and hope to see more!
