it’s a bad photo (i was on my bike), but how could i pass a turkey in a backyard and not photograph? full disclosure: i have considered raising my own thanksgiving turkey. but this was may 1st. huh.
Question by taynna: How much do farm raised turkeys sell for?
I started raising chickens two years ago for my SAE project for FFA, and I haven’t had much luck lately. I need something else to get me a little extra cash to fund all of my current animal projects. I thought about raising turkeys, but I would like to sell them still live, because I don’t really have the facilities to process them. How much would they sell for?
Give your answer to this question below!
Depending on the breeds the weights and care the birds go for any where from 20-40-100 bucks a bird Do check into this process well before getting birds you CAN”T sell for a profit…

They sell by market price, and the current market price is up now because it is not the time of year when turkeys are normally in demand. So to sell them now would most likely get you about $ 1.50 -$ 1.75 a pound. If you wait till closer to Easter or even Thanksgiving you will get less because the demand will be higher then

isn’t that just the opposite of the whole supply and demand rule of economics? why would you get LESS money selling them when the demand is higher? i’m not arguing against what you are saying, i’m just trying to figure out why it would be that way. turkeys look like a good option for our small farm and my city-bred wife won’t let me raise anything we’d end up eating, so i’d have to sell it live, even if i sold it directly to a butcher.
