Question by Danyse: What would happen to a person if they keep goats on a residential lot?
I found out a person down the street from me is going to get goats or sheep, he lives on a 3 acre residential lot. He has only 2 acres cleared with his house taking up most of the land. When I’ve been walking my dog I have seen the animal warden van going down the road he lives on.

What do you think? Answer below!

  1. If your zoning doesn’t allow goats, chances are he’ll probably be fined, and if he doesn’t rehome the goats quickly, they’ll probably take them.

I would ask your neighbor to check with the zoning before he gets goats or sheep. It will prevent a lot of heartbreak.

You could also suggest maybe having him board goats somewhere. Many people do this when they want farm animals but can’t keep them on their own property.

  2. If it’s illegal to have livestock in your city limits, the goats could be seized. If he can have them according to zoning laws, as long as he keep them fed and in good health, it shouldn’t be a problem. It just depends on the laws where you live.
