Wind – a quiet solution to climate change

Windmills don’t pollute our air or water, and compared to pretty much everything else, let’s be honest — they aren’t very loud either.

  3. Whether wind turbines are loud or not depends on how large the turbine is, and how far your home is from the turbine. The construction of the turbines in an inappropriate area can be ecologically devastating. Let’s be honest indeed: wind turbines are not always as quiet as your idyllic shot would suggest. Wind energy is a good idea – but it must be in an appropriate place.

  4. This is a good comparison of the level of noise people deal with every day. Personally I often use earplugs at night to stop noise from local parties, sirens and flocks of birds that start chirping at 4 am. I’ve heard it takes 38 – 45 dB to wake people, and I doubt windmills are that loud. Their sound may stand out occasionally against the relative quiet of a rural setting, however this disbenefit is minute compared to the effects of climate change and peak oil on society and the environment.

  5. Is it true that deer and moose will move away from the area when a windmill is installed? I am told the steady whoosh, whoosh, whoosh of the blade disrupts their ability to detect predators and so they have to find a new home. I support wind as a part of the energy mix but remain concerned that Industrial Wind Turbines are not the be all and end all that the video implies.
