Deep sand Bed… Nightlife and Hurricane Irene loss prevent
Please Help me figure out exactly what type of species these critters are..I’m also wondering what everyone on the east coast will b doing without power from hurricane Irene, how will our tanks fair during a power outage…mother nature can reallly suck sometimes, I hate long island n being on the southshore

Hey pete….those are the good bristle worms, most bristle worms in reef aquariums are the good ones or fire worms, which do NOT eat corals as many people think they are. I have those in my pico tank.

Thanks for all the responses guys!!! I didn’t even realize those were bristleworms the pics I were seeing of them looked a little different, thanks for clearing this all up for me…… As far as the hurricane went, it was not bad at all, alotta hype, I didn’t even lose power for a second! Lots of floooding n some trees got ripped up but nothing major at all, my house had no flooding no tree damage no power loss thank god!!

HEEEY man how did you make out? everything good over by you? we got hit pretty hard floods everywhere and power outtages but no major damage at my house, and surprisingly we still have power.

Yes they are both bristle worms. Copiepods and anthipods look like a little white roach. Being anthipods the bigger of the two. When the power goes out on my tank I have a battery power air bubbler with air stone and that seems to work. Hope that helps. Peace

looks like both are Bristle worms one is the Common one the black one is jest another type of Bristle worm… and you got Amphipods there all good for your tank i have them in one of my tanks back at home and i no what you mean they are very cool to watch great vid!!!… =]

For the hurricane to keep heat in the tank I would put stirofoam around I live on the west coast so good luck

Hey man, I agree with Frank. Bristle worm are good i heard. But they can multiply quickly. A buddy of mine had way too many in his tank. To get rid of some of them he cut the top off of a plastic wiffle golf ball, you know the one with holes in it. Stuff it with some course filter pad material. Put some food in it. The worms will go in it to eat the food and wont be able get out. he got rid of around half of them. But his were out of control.

Hey Bro, The orange things are bristle worms. They are awesome for the DSB. They get really big also. It’s a good thing. I don’t know what kind the black ones are. They are probably good also. The amphipods you should be able to see at night on the rocks scavaging for algae. The worms are eating off the waste in the DSB. It’s great that the DSB is “Alive”

i bought the CyberPower Intelligent LCD Series GreenPower UPS CP1500AVRLCD 1500VA 900W 8 Outlets UPS. I ordered it yesterday and had them send it to me next day. So it will be here later today. Last thing i want is the power going out. Its a battery backup that plugs into the wall. Only the essentials will be plugged into it to maximize the battery.
