I am going to get about 4 chickens mostly to lay eggs and I looked on websites and stuff they just don’t add up

Just get two regular hens . i don’t know specific names , but any hen can lay eggs i’m sure . my dad has raised chickens almost all his life . probably get a rooster for each hen too . it’d be great to watch the beautiful roosters poking around eating bugs lol 🙂 plus , you can always eat them if you run outta food or money . keep them healthy if your gonna eat them and stuff ! don’t be giving them a ton of shots to keep them alive , like the chicken you buy at a store . that’s what causes cancer sometimes , cuz those chicken farm people don’t know how to keep them healthy . trust me , i know . i practically live beside one . it stinks so bad it’s unbelievable , you can barely even breathe . you can just smell the rotting and dying chickens . sorry , this a whole different point haha 🙂 anyways , ya . just get any little hen . if you get roosters , they can breed the hens and then she’ll have baby roosters 🙂 it’s cute to watch them grow up 🙂

RIR’s are the best egg layers, I have a Partidge Rock she lays everyday even in winter. We get 3 to 4 eggs a day, out of the 4 hens we have. All the hens we have lay big brown eggs.

They are all great for what you want they all will provide plenty you have to decide what you want from the birds such as color,,, temperament, disposition,Most chickens are docile but the smaller breeds do tend to be more testy…
Dominique lay brown eggs at 250 per yr
Marans lay a very dark color like rusty or chocolate color very nice at 280 py
Wyandotte lay light brown eggs at 290 py.
Australorp lay dark brown at 309 py ( have these)
Buff Orpington lay med brown at 315 py
Barred rock lay brown eggs at 290 py
Plymounth Rock lay light med brown eggs at 200 py
Black Star lay med brown at 280 py
RIRed lay med brown at 290 py
Leg horns are the best ever for eggs at 300 py and are white like the store ones.
Keep in mind this all varies with the birds mentioned with the weather elements ,molts, illness, stress, broodiness,age, and death and proper or inproper care……

For your purpose I would recommend Buff Orpington, Barred Rock, or Rhode Island Red.
All three have wonderful personalities, and are superb brown layers. Even in the dead of winter (-10 or more Fahrenheit) we were pulling a dozen and a half to two dozen eggs out of our 30 layers daily.
