A bunch of us went out to St. Johns to visit Eric’s (and Ben’s) chicks. This was their second time outside and they were having a grand old time.
Question by : Question for those who’ve seen the 1980 movie “Urban Cowboy” and know it well,…?
,…and remember the character Bud Davis that actor John Travolta played, remember the type of horrible person he was and the way he’d fly off the deep end the way he did over virtuallly nothing,
what do you think he would say or do if he went to McDonald’s with his wife Sissy(Debra Winger) and got shorted a chicken nugget in his order? Say for example he ordered a 20-piece nugget for himself but they only gave him 19. What do you think he’d say or do? What do you envision happeneing?
I saw that movie just a few nights ago when I rented it so it’s still fresh in my mind so I thought I’d ask. It’s that movie where he was riding that mechanical bull at a huge bar called Gilley’s.
“Mystmoon”,
good answer. how old are you? i was only 1 year old back in 1980 when this got released in theatres. and yes, that ex-con wes was a bad guy, you were right about that, i mean, him hitting her and him trying to rob that place.
it’s just i remember how upset and unhappy he seemed ALL THE TIME, also, when you compare how he was back then in his role to his more recent roles in movies like Phenomenon and Broken Arrow, you just seems like a much more pleasant guy. his character in the movie looked so real that he looked like he could’ve been like that in real life.
i seen this movie about 13 years ago in my late teens and forgotten a lot of the details and then saw it again just 2 nights ago. he just seemed like a walking timebomb, his character in that movie..

Bud isn’t a “horrible person”, and there were reasons he became angry. They were not “over virtually nothing”. Sissy had a lot to do with it, especially her trampy behavior, combined with their slovenly way of “housekeeping”. Both were rather bratty and accustomed to getting his/her way. They were old enough to marry but definitely not mature enough~though that rarely stops people.
If he was shorted on an order, he’d probably be as upset as any other person would be~if anyone bothers to count how many nuggets are received. I doubt that anyone counts the number of nuggets, and I doubt that Bud would bother. I envision Bud eating the nuggets. That’s it.
You need to watch the movie again if you came up with that opinion of Bud.
What about the ex-con? How could you not think he was worse than Bud? Sissy is lucky Bud took her back after her behavior, especially the bullriding exhibition she put on. Now that was trampy to the nth degree. Bud could have had a very rich, very beautiful, very attentive girl, but for whatever reason, he was ready to take Sissy back, just as she hoped he would.
