Question by jxt299: If the pet food contamination makes it in to feed for chickens, pigs, and beef, how will it effect our health?
Melamine was the contaminant that killed dozens of pets across America, and now it has been found in the animal feed that chickens, pigs, and beef cattle eat. Not a lot, but some. How will it effect us, if at all? Should we take up vegetarianism until this matter is cleared up? And do you think this is one of those problems that the government knew the dangerous extent of, but never told for fear of causing a panic or hurting business?

Just wait and see. It has been in the livestock feed sold for use in North America, but we don’t know how long.
Mercury poisoning in fish, from contaminated waterways, has caused illness, death and birth defects in humans. We don’t know what melamine may do.
Keep an eye on the offspring of any of the surviving melamine poisoned dogs and cats, for a hint of what is to come.

A good question. Many hogs and chickens have already been removed from the human food chain. Investigators have not found much of any of this in our human food and try to reassure the public if there is any it would be so minor no problems would be experienced. That may be true. But many of us will keep tuned in here. There are more questions than answers.

What I want to know, is how the substance got in there. Was it an accident…….????

no matter what the outcome is or what we are allowed to be told ,I personally can’t see how it was an accident.This from a country that eats dogs among many other human rights issues,I think perhaps we were just “Guinea pigs” to them or maybe we wouldn’t make a fuss?? Why should that product even be there? In the same space?I think we will have more questions than answers.I think America should stop imports from those countries that don’t adhere to our own food standards.Anybody else think so?
