Raised Bed Gardening: Affordable, Redneck style — or whatever.

Raise bed gardening has many benefits. It is not as hard on the back as conventional gardening, it’s easier to control the irrigation/ moisture content of soil, easier to control weeds and also easier to harvest crops. You can buy fancy raised beds up at Sams club with only about 32 square ft of gardening area, made out of redwood for hundreds of dollars or you can do it my way, 232 square feet for about in screws. Use your imagination. You can keep them inexpensive and functional, or go the gammit of elaborate landscaping with stacked stone sides. If you already have landscaped areas in your yard, you can fill all or part of some of these areas with vegetables, berries, or herbs Where ever your needs and imagination takes you.

  3. Reply to 1st question; I dug a big hole and used the dirt out of it and I mix free horse manure and I mix free oak tree mulch (both composted). Probably 1/2 dirt, 1/4 manure and 1/4 oak mulch. The hole I dug I fill it with oak tree cuttings and let it compost.
We started with good thick stalked wild blackberry bushes and dig out atleast a foot away and a foot downfrom the plant. We use cheap 1gal pots off of ebay and mix in oak leaves and horse manure. They seem to do well.
