Ejahi, once I found those pantry moths, I probably did go overboard. for short term storage, we store grains in a # 10 can in the kitchen pantry. I store, fruits and vegetables in mason jars for cooking. My DH purchased a food saver with the mason jar attachment for Christmas. I use that to seal the jars. I like looking at other peoples home food storage to get ideas. Again, thank you for subscribing.
thanks for the info. I went and took a look at the video you have on food storage so i saw what you were talking about. I never had those type of bugs before. But I have had wevills in my grain that i left in the packaging. I never had that problem with storing them in the food grade buckets with lids. The reason why these particular buckets are not selled inside is cause we were using them throughout the week. They were not my long term storage. My long term is selled.
Nice video. Don’t forget to seal your Mylar bags. I use a curling iron to do mine. I learn the hard way that if your grains are not stored properly, you will start getting pantry moths. Keep up the good work.
That’s what I do too. Refill the 2L soda bottles with tap water. It’s amazing how fast you collect them, especially if you ask for empty 2L bottles from friends, family, work, etc!
Sorry hit the wrong button, as I was saying, we keep to the foods we eat normally and just cycle thru I have young kids so do not want to stray from the norm too much at first, then we can slowly introduce the freeze dried foods to their diet. We also fill every soda and water bottle we use with tap water just in case we must have 100 2 liter bottles full now. Please keep up the good work.
The sell the Gamma lids where I bought my wondermill which is the Bread Beckers and they also sell them on the Emergency Essentials website. I subscribe to there catalog.
My husbands first concern is how to continue using the toliet in the house before we would have to use some alternative means. I cant say I blame him. So its just good to have non drinking water on hand for those things and hand washing and whatnot.
the tap water storage idea. very clever. have not yet heard that one. i mean, i know that when something happens, the first thing you want to do is fill up every container (including the bathtub) with water, but i had not thought of storing tap ahead of time.
Thanks! I just thought about if It was an emergency situation at the house and I didnt have water we could still flush the toliet if we fill the tank or if we need to wash our hands we dont have to waste drinking water.
Great video. May I suggest that when purchasing can goods, use a permanent marker and put the month and year on the can. This way, when you inventory, you’ll know what to use first. Peace.
We dont have much space either. I had to clear out some space by throwing things out. It was time to get rid of it anyway. You could always use the back of a closest or like you said a laundry space as well.
Well done! I’ve really wanted to start stockpilling myself, but comming up with the space is our biggest challenge. I think once we clear out some clutter from the laundry room we may be able to start!!
