What is subsistence agriculture and its relationship to sustainability?

Question by Ryan H: What is subsistence agriculture and its relationship to sustainability?
I need to describe Subsistence agriculture and discuss its relationship to sustainability. I can’t find this in my book though. I know what sustainable agriculture is, but I’m guessing it isn’t the same as subsistence agriculture. Help someone?

  1. Subsistence agriculture is farming that is done to provide food for the farmer. This as opposed to growing cash crops like cotton and tobacco where the farmer grows crops to sell for money.
