  1. Ducks breed at the younger age of 8 months or when they get their adult feathers and quack. This green fuzz means they are drakes ( male ducks) . Breeding ducks includes of course having a male and female that are old enough to breed. They must have somewhere they feel safe enough to breed and lay eggs and complete the incubation processsl. Once they lay the eggs the incubation process is 28-31 days. If you need to know more you can email me at highridinggal@ymail.com.

  2. Ducks are usually sexually mature at around 5-6 months (give or take), however, sometimes it might take the drakes a couple of months to get the hang of it & the girls might not start laying at that exact age. It’s different with every duck & also it depends on the climate & what season of the year it is where the ducks live at. One of our runner girls actually just laid her first egg at the age of 14 weeks old, but it was a fart egg. So, those first eggs might be unusually shaped, small, & possibly yolkless.

As for coloring, black Swedish ducks sometimes have a green sheen to their feathers & it seems to show up on top of their head first.
