Living Culture host, Nate Rafn, and chef Steve Morton visit with Scott Jondle at Abundant Life Farm in Dallas, Oregon. Steve and Scott discuss their pig-feeding pilot program, which incorporates vegetable scraps from Steve’s West Salem restaurant, Morton’s Bistro NW. We also talk with Scott about raising pigs and other livestock on the farm. Abundant Life Farm is located 5 miles south of Dallas, Oregon. Utilizing 210 acres of pasture and wooded area, the Jondle family raises cattle, lamb, pigs, and poultry. Before establishing their farm in Dallas, the Jondle family trained with renowned author and rancher, Joel Salatin, at his Polyface Farm in Swoope, Virginia. Salatin wrote the book “You Can Farm,” and was featured in the documentary “Food Inc.” Morton’s Bistro NW has been serving locally reliant cuisine to the Salem fine-dining crowd since 1989.Living Culture is a monthly television series that showcases cuisine and agriculture in the Pacific Northwest. Here in Kosovo “Eastern Europe.. I am the only American raising pigs and I feed them as much “waste” as I can… I call it gold.. vegetables from markets and whatever I can find that is wholesome. I would love to liason with you for advice and such. bosmaker@yahoo.com Love them hogs!!!

Good advice about the geese and putting in a larger animal. What kind of structure do you keep the chickens in and how many chickens does it hold?
