Shaking Before The Swarm

Created on March 11, 2012 using FlipShare. www.sticky-tires.com We arrived at one of our bee yards to shake bees and add honey supers. However, two colonies looked as if they were getting ready to swarm. The frames were examined to locate the queen and analyze the strength of the colony. We arrived just in time to keep the bees in their hive by shaking down the population and adding a honey super (another hive box). They were checked on a few days later and were thriving, whew.
