    One things waste is the others food, waste nothing. Apply that mindset to your model with a little innovation and you have a working model.

  2. All right, any and everything produced has to be useful to something else. Corn can be a support for beans and still have room for clover to renourish the soil. Rotate crops and use different water system. Get the water from an upslope area (river) instead of pumps. Use a water drip to use less water. For fertilizer use a worm farm to get their pee. Must be diluted 10:1 usually for use on plants. Use slopes for planting to make use of the natural rain fall. At the bottom of the slope have a pond for plants in water. At the top plant plants that need little to no water. Have a compost pile for uneaten food, leave any extra things not needed for eating where they are in the field to return some nutrients. Make a wind barrier to keep soil erosion. Collect water from rain.
