Product Review: Palram Cold Frame – Single

Today I do a quick review on a cold frame product by Palram. This cold frame is pretty poorly constructed, instructions for assembly are not very good, and the quality of the product is pretty poor. Think of a cold frame as a mini green house for starting plants or extending your growing season. This product is pretty flimsy, and has started to come apart just from being outside in the heat and cold for the last month. The size is too small to put more than one seed starting tray in the frame so it will take some adaption with smaller seed starting pots and trays to fully use this space. Over all my rating is 2 thumbs down for this product. It would be much easier and better to build your own, or opt up for a more expensive, better built cold frame product. I will likely have a fall project to build some of my own. I have 3 of the Palram cold frames, with two of them setup at this time. I will setup the 3rd one for the extra space soon.

  1. After having used these last year I found that the quality and durability is pretty poor with these units. So after having spent some time with these I would not recommend this as a cold frame solution for most people. I you just want something fast, and easy to setup, but don’t care how long it lasts or how well it is built then this might work in a pinch. My recommendation today is to look for something much better quality or build your own.

  2. I believe the price on these was around $40 plus shipping. Which was the attractive thing about them and why I took the plunge. The comparable products were significantly more expensive, but they had better reviews. I made a decision to avoid the negatives on the product and take a chance. Honestly for the money spent someone could build something much nicer I believe if you have some basic hand tools and some time.
