Chicken feeding. Cropped, but not much else. Pretty basic picture. Shows how the camouflage works.

  1. What we do is let them eat as much as they want on their own time. We built a tall narrow box that has a trough on the end and fill it with food. Make sure to put a top on it though. We have had our fair share of curious chickens. Lol

  2. just get a feeder (like this http://www.chicken-house.co.uk/acatalog/3kg_green_white_poultry_feeder_300.jpg ) and fill it up with feed, they’ll just peck at it all day, and it will usually last quite a long time, they dont eat it all in one go.. just remember to take it out of the pen/coup at night so the rats aren’t attracted in.

i also give them like a handful or two of corn a day, just chuck it on the floor

  4. I would recommend a feeder made of galvanized steel. Make sure the feeder has a top so the chickens don’t jump up and eat from the top and contaminate the food. Also, at the end of the day it is advised to set out some hard grain for them so as you have a chance to inspect them for red mite etc. In ways of water, just let them drink when they want. Fill the feeder all the way up and see how much they eat in the first day, then put that amount in from now on, as chickens don’t tend to eat and you’ll end up wasting a lot of food.

but if you’re curious, i have four bantams (very small and don’t eat as much) and four regular sized birds. together they eat about a little less than a gallon of feed a day.

  7. A laying hen should have 4 ounces of layers pellets or mash per day, you can feed mixed corn at the same rate but they don’t lay so well on corn. I find it best to give them pellets in the morning, then give them a little corn late afternoon, If they have access to both corn and pellets together they tend prefer corn.
