Question by shooter: What are my options for amending the soil in my small vegetable garden?
I have a small vegetable garden and I used manure last year and my garden did not do so well.Is there something better I could use. The garden is about 3’x 12′ and I grow tomatoes,beans,peppers,and onions. Is there something better then manure or is there something else I could add with the manure to get a better results.

Get your soil tested……..or buy a test kit and DIY……..most garden centers have them. It will tell you what type of fertilizer you need.

It doesn’t get any better than decomposed barn yard manure or compost. Was the manure you used well rotted? There are no nutrients available for plants from any manure until it breaks down. In fact the process of composting actually robs nitrogen from the soil during the time it takes to decompose.

Hi,
Does your garden have good drainage? Drainage is important. I use composted manure in bags. But you also need to fertilize every week.
I use Miracle Grow for Vegetables Fertilizers. One tablespoon to a gallon of water. My crop is doing great.
Without fertililizing you wont have a good crop.

ask the garden supplies inregards to 4 ways soil which is a combination of mushroom compost, sand, fertiliser and fresh garden soil. it works best in vege gardens. Also using seasol when watering the veges will boost growth.

i would add the manure to your soil a 4-8 weeks before you put your plants in.
sometime adding manure to your plants it can be to hard for them so it good to use just before you put your plants in.
i would go get some foxfarms,
Liquid Nutrient Trio Soil Formula—Big Bloom®, Grow Big® and Tiger Bloom® works great for liquid.
or you can add some
Happy Frog® Tomato & Vegetable Organic Fertilizer (7-4-5)
these are easy to use and work great 🙂
