Over flow tank at the end of the growbeds hold excess water before it is pumped back to the fish tanks. The blue floatation devise acts to cut off the water flow if the over flow tank gets too full.

Question by Sean Rauch: what size fish tank water heater?
I have a 50 Gallon tank, that Is outside, and the pump runs the water into a aquaponics grow bed, Even though the tank is in an enclosed patio, it still gets cold in the winter, almost to freazing. No good for tropical fish. what size heater should I use to keep my fish tank above 65 when the air temp around it can get to 30 at night but stays mid 70’s durring the day. Remember it is being circulated through a 15gal planter. Thanks for the help
What do you think? Answer below!
Kinda a really tough question to answer, I’d go big if that’s the case maybe 2 300 watt heaters

Yeah, I’d go big as well as it’s outside and will have extra heat loss due to the planter. A couple of 300w wont be excessive.
The power draw is the same no matter what size heater. 300w running 100% of the time, or 600w running 1/2 the time, same power use.
Are you able to insulate the setup a bit? Even a blanket or tarp that you put over things on the cold nights to keep the warmth in ? Even keeping the breeze off it slows down the heat loss.
