Kris and I joined our friends Aaron and Melissa for dinner last night. We fed their neighbor’s chickens our scraps.
Question by : What can you feed chickens, what cant you feed chickens?
we bought 16week old chickens, and what can you feed them/ what cant you feed them?
Can you help? Leave your own answer in the comments!
Chickens are production animals and so demand a nutrition-dense diet. Even if you are keeping chickens as pets, they still need plenty of nutrients to grow and lay eggs.
I feed my chickens at lest three glockenspiels a day and a hearty serving of Poraline. I find this diet is the best for good quality eggs and providing them with all the nutrition needed.
Never give your chickens homosapien grain, it gives them terrible gas and a taste for blood. If the chickens accidently ingest some homosapien grain from your dinner, DO NOT PANIC. Calmly drive them to the nearest swimming facility and give them a nice long lesson in swimming. This should return them to normal in exactly 24 hours.
Good luck with your new chickens!

no avocado
everything else-dig in!
chooks eat all kinds of things and they LOVE blood, so watch out if one gets a cut,the others will attack
they’re also addicted to their eggs once you let them get a chance at eating one, so never ever let this happen otherwise as soon as the eggs laid then its cracked and eaten
a cool trick i learnt off my vet is to grab a chicken, tip it on its back for 2min then let go, it will be subconscious and wont move till you make a loud noise

start them off with crushed chicken pellets for afew weeks…some crushed bran also …then as they get older give them ordinaty ckicken pellets…when they are much more mature..near adult give them layers pelletts…all these can be bought from pet or fodder stores…they also like leftover vege scraps …particularly greens…some lucerne tops is good too….plenty fresh water in long shallow trays clean water every day…..keep them warm…maybe under a portable low wattage globe for a week or so…put newspaper on floor of container/box/cage…clean out each day….dont cuddle them too much…good luck….

Let them run aroun in the garden, they will find their own food and consume what they require to remain healthy.

to be more put..
Kitchen scraps! They’ll virtually eat anything without regards for their health. (LOL)
Lettuce..old salad, carrot peels, etc, oyster shells ( finely crushed good source of calcium ) Oh yeah, and they love blood.
If your like my dad, whenever he goes fishing, he minces up the fish guts and the chickens gobble it all up. If you feed them shrimp peels ( already steamed, raw etc ,) the egg yolks become a pretty deep orange color and full of rich flavor. I find that the more protein a chicken has as well as some vegetation of course, the better the eggs taste. BUT DON’T feed them meat, like pork, chicken, beef etc. lol.. ;| that’s for humans to consume not chickens. xD.
Also, you can feed them worms, maggots, any creepy crawly insect, and they’ll eat it. ( You can find worms under logs, or dig em up when you’re gardening or landscaping )
They love fruits as well, but there are some sweet peas that chickens may be allergic too, so don’t go rampant with the peas.
Oh yeah, and on a nice hot summer day, WATER MELON peels are the best! They drink/eat the water melon till only the green skin of the rind is left. ( all that white/pink flesh is gone ) lol.
Good luck!
