The garden final takes some sort of shape – the compost heap goes to the back wall where it’s going to stay, the concrete slap is broken up and shifted out, the flower beds down the south fence starts to fill with soil, and the earth montain is nicely coming down in size. Both fences are treated and the base of the south fence is whitewashed.

  1. Well, I’ve heard it’s made of char-grilled, aborted rabbit fetuses and cow feces. But I’d taste it to make sure.

  2. There are many different recipes for potting mix. I make a big batch every spring. My recipe (a soil-less mix) is about
    3 parts leaf compost
    1 part pine bark fines
    1 part perlite
    1 part peat moss
plus some TerraSorb, Roots and 5-6 month Osmocote

Good garden soil (loam) is typically and equal mix of sand, silt and organic matter. The stuff in my yard is a mix of red clay and gravely sand. Good for making bricks but takes lots of work to grow stuff in.

  3. Potting mix has mostly peat moss or a compost. Some have sand or perlite for drainage.
Garden soil is a mix of sand, silt, and clay. The only difference between the three is the particle size. Soils will have a different amount.
Organic matter is also in soil that is not sand silt or clay. Organic mater is broken down plant material like sticks, grass, leaves etc.
Peat moss is organic mater too.
