Processing 280 Chickens – Cornish Cross & Red Bros at Pete and Jen Backyard Bird’s Mobile Poultry Processing Unit
Question by : Can you raise chickens in your backyard?
We have 8 chickens in our backyard right now. My dad wants to kill them because he says the city won’t allow it. We live in CA around the central coast. Can you raise chickens here? We only want to keep 1 or 2.
Does the city allow it? We live very close to our neighbors, and we’re on a busy avenue.
What do you think? Answer below!

most cities will not allow you to have chickens. However check your zoneing for your city and see what it says. You might find you are allowed a couple, hens only.

well, im from Oregon, and our laws state you cant have chickens in a urban setting.
so um, cant tell you for sure. remember, there is absolutely NOTHING wrong with killing your chickens, well, that is only for food. you should keep them in a enclosed coop, so they cant get out in the street, or front yard.

Some cities allow hens but not roosters.
You can phone city hall, or if there is an SPCA in your area you can call them and they will know.
You should keep 2-3, chickens are happier with a friend.
