I think he left out the part where you break off the bottom leaves and bury the stalk several inches up. This will force more root production giving the plant stronger roots.
I do prefer planting determinate varieties, just because it’s easier to manage. Check out my video on tomato soil tips on my channel.There are other things you can add to your soil to maintain healthy and robust tomato crops.

lol. my tomato plant is in a 1ft tall pot and it’s 4ft tall and it still produces fruit.
