  1. Organic farming is the form of agriculture that relies on techniques such as crop rotation, green manure, compost and biological pest control, to maintain soil productivity and control pests on a farm. Organic farming excludes or strictly limits the use of synthetic fertilizers and synthetic pesticides, plant growth regulators, livestock antibiotics, food additives and genetically modified organisms.

  2. You have a lot of work ahead of you in compiling the information you want.

Since a piggery operation’s purpose is to raise domestic pigs up to slaughter weight,
grower pigs must be housed indoors in group-housing or straw-lined sheds, pregnant sows
in sow stalls (gestation pens) and birthing (farrowing) pens.

These must be temperature controlled to minimize animal stress. Manure and other waste
must be routinely and rapidly removed. Feed must be stored, maintained and introduced
quickly on a daily basis. There must be abundant drinking water and dispensers,
as well as water and implements for daily cleaning operations.

If you intend to use electricity, you must determine its’ source and the cost of all elements.

You will need an on-sight veterinarian, if you are not knowledgeable in that field.

To protect your investment, you will need on-sight, ’round-the-clock security,
business insurance and health insurance for those working the operation.

You will need to determine the cost of procuring all these items in your area, plus the labor
to construct, put into operation and maintain the facility, both initially and on a daily basis.

That’s quite a shopping-list, so you’d better get started. Good luck.
