Producers in Hughes and Potter Counties and the Dakota Lakes Research Farm Corporation hosted an “open house” on their farms October 26, 2011 to view the success they’ve had with cover crops this fall. Some producers were cropland only while the others incorporated cattle to their resource management strategy and the Research Farm offered an “end of the season” look at the results of a variety of species in test plots. Each producer has unique goals for using cover crops in their conservation crop rotation. Organized by the SDSU Cooperative Extension Service, the Dakota Lakes Research Farm and the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), specialists were on-hand to facilitate discussion for the techniques.
Question by Russell B: With the bad weather in force are farmers able to dig up crops, any UK farmers looking in.?
Fresh vegetables seem to be in short supply or people are panic buying.
The question i ask is can farmers still dig up any crops with snow on the ground.
On local tv a farmer was digging up parsnips 40 ton per day because the were covered by straw to protect them.

Sure – spouts are getable as are potatoes and onions and swedes and turnips.
