Question by mountain_laurel1183: Reasons to go organic?
I have been incorporating as many organic foods into my diet as I can find. My parents (especially my dad, who was an agriculture agent) don’t understand why. Once I read a list that convinced me, but the only things on it that I can remember are taste, support of local farmers, and pesticides (which, finding that children who do not eat organic produce have 9x the level of pesticides in their urine as children who do was enough to convince me!).
can anyone refresh my memory as to the other reasons? It was a pretty long list. Thanks! 🙂

Healthier, tastes better, and you get to feel smug. Hippie that you are.

the main one is because pesticides are poisening our food. alos steroyed use is aswell. my mom has also incorperated many foods into my diet as possible. i think its really going to be hard to go organic because its so expensive. its going to be hard but if you can afford it i think you really need to try it, we trying to change the world here and everyone can help.

Taste and support of local farmers is hogwash. If you want those, go to your local farmer’s market. I promise you that’s the best produce you will ever have.
The only real reason is to reduce chemicals, but if you wash all vegetables and fruit before eating them, you drastically reduce that already. You have to REALLY wash fruit though, since most of it is waxed.

well because
1) people want a natural environment
2) we believe our meat should be free range and should not be forced to grow faster than normal
3) pesticides are unnatural
4) tastes better
5) naturally healthy food means naturally healthy people
6) mostly because its not natrual

Everyone above is right on the money. There was a study done that compared organic veg to conventional veg. As an example, the calcium content of the conventional spinach was about 4-5 mg per serving. The organic spinach was over 300! The nutritional value of organic products are VASTLY superior to conventional. You may have noticed that organic can be a bit more expensive, but when the nutritional value is so much better and the impact on the environment is so much less…it’s a better choice all the way around.
