Question?? How do you stir up the waste materials in your fish tanks to drive it to your vortex filtration tanks? I dont see how the water is being pushed to the vortex,… it cant be gravity fed or the waste will just settle on the bottom of your fish tanks,, please share this … thank you so much!

instead of wd-40 you can use Windex. Its a little more animal friendly.
Other than that very cool and helpful info. I’ve got a 350 gallon conical clarifier that I may add the piping to try out the vortex method.

@TheUrbanFarmingGuys Do you think it would work to put the drain at the bottom without the ironing plates if you used a uni-seal and/or some silicone epoxy to seal all of the seams around the drain, instead of needing a flat surface?

Thanks for this great initiative that you guys actually planted a seed In my mind. Question I’m total nub to aqua anything but with this exact system u have made can u have the same volume of growing space as of water space? I’ve heard 50/50 is an ideal set up and have never seen such a powerful filtration system before. can u have the best of both worlds ( growing space and organic fertilizer) ?

@erikhardy1077 We dilute the fertilizer 4 times and put about a half gallon to each tomato plant. We have posted the fertilizer analysis on the wiki on our webpage. It is a 10-6-2 with a ton of micronutrients. Check it out.

@loadedoperator7 Using an orbital sander may work. We actually tried that first with not much luck, we were using a belt sander with very coarse grit. Anyone have luck with this?

You can use a orbital sanding disk a bit bigger than your drain to remove some of that bump on the inside. Then drill it out and it will hold water just fine. The outer seam is mostly flat. Its the bump on the inside that needs to be sanded flat. Or vice versa…

How are you using the fertilizer that you are pulling off, do you cut it with water? How is it applied in an aquaponic setup? Love the videos, and what you are doing!!
