Producers in Hughes and Potter Counties and the Dakota Lakes Research Farm Corporation hosted an “open house” on their farms October 26, 2011 to view the success they’ve had with cover crops this fall. Some producers were cropland only while the others incorporated cattle to their resource management strategy and the Research Farm offered an “end of the season” look at the results of a variety of species in test plots. Each producer has unique goals for using cover crops in their conservation crop rotation. Organized by the SDSU Cooperative Extension Service, the Dakota Lakes Research Farm and the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), specialists were on-hand to facilitate discussion for the techniques.
