Question by Squirrlee-1: 20 month old . At what age do you put a blanket in the crib/bed with them. He’s a wiggle worm.?
Used the fleece blanket sleeper in winter but now its summer and feel he needs something. Getting tangled in blanket & smothering scares me.
Thanks everyone. I know I am just paranoid.
And YES, he has had a blanket, just not in bed. Guess we will try one….Thanks again
OH, if those sleepers are for kids under 6 mos, then why are there toddler sizes?

They make lightweight cotton sleep sacks if you’re not comfortable with a blanket. We gave our daughter a blanket when she went into a toddler bed at around 26 months. Didn’t think it was necessary until she could get up on her own (would’ve tripped on the sleepsack — thus, blanket time!).
I’d say switch to a blanket when you switch to a toddler bed.

if he doesnt like blankets you could buy a baby sleeping bag for the summer that way e can wriggle about n still be warm and u dont need to worry about him being smothered by it

Are you serious? He’s 20 months old and you still haven’t give him a blanket. Those sleepers are for kids under 6 months or so. He is surely old enough to move a blanket off of him now. You are being over protective but even worse it doesn’t seem like you are aware of how grown and capable he is now.

I was the same way!
I started with a very lightweight blanket, sheet almost, and I only put it in during nap time when I could watch my son. This way he got used to it. Especially since he is 20 months old, he has allot more skills now.
Also if you are still nervous, it is summer time, just dress him a bit more warm and wait on a blanket until you hit the fall.

I must be a negligent mother, I gave my daughter a blanket around 6 months when she was old enough to move her head if it got in her face. Of course I checked on her frequently and we always have the baby monitor on. I would think almost two is more than old enough to be given a blanket (???)

I put a blanket in my sons bed at like 6 months. He is 17 months old now, and he has been in a toddler bed for 3 months or so. All babies are dfferent though. I know mine was ready for a toddler bed when I caught him climbing out of his crib at a year old! If your baby can move his bead by himself a blanket should be no problem. At 20 months old, I would reccomend going to a todddler bed anyway…or you may end up with issues of the baby “escaping”, as my little houdini did.

My daughter wiggles in her blanket too and shes 2 yrs old. A child that age is old enough that if something covered their face, they would wake up. But if you’re too worried about it, then just dress him in light weight cotton long sleeve & pants pjs w/socks on… as long as your house is at a comfortable temperature, he shouldn’t need a blanket dressed in that, therefore solving the problem. Hope I helped! =)

it is likely that when he wriggles he will wriggle out of the blanket, my daughter is 7 onths old and she wriggles all around her cot all night drives me mad have to keep getting up to put blanket back on her!
if its warm a sheet will be just enough1 your babiy is old enough now not to tangle himself up in it, but like i said its more likely to wriggle out of the blanket than to wrap himself in it! if babies smothered then selves alot in blankets then they wouldnt sell them!

ive put my daughter in blankets since she was born…but i constantly am checking on her too…shes almost 8 months..but she has to have a blanket with her..she likes to hold the corner in her hand when she sleeps…she also feels the need to use her stuffed animal as a pillow! as long as he/she can turn their head during sleep, i wouldnt be too worried…just dont put a massive amount of things in the crib!

Try a 1 tog sleeping bag for summer and a thicker one for winter, they do them for 12-36 months on E-Bay at around £10.00. The shop I got mine from are called Staffs Retail and they are brilliant.
We haven’t used blankets since Rosie was around 3 months.
She loves her sleeping bag and feels cosy in it.

I have a 22 months old. And i just put him on a wear snug-fitting that way his feet or alright cover up. And give him his blanket and call it a night. He is not gonna stay under the blanket anyways.

My son had a blanket with him after he turned a year and he does fine. He’s almost 3 and has to have one small one to hold and a light one to cover him.
