I have all 12 plants rooted now. They -should- all grow. I’ll try to take pics of this thing every month to track the progress. I hope to have these things really growing by the end of spring so I can get a bunch more clippings.
I found the more narrow top fit much better into the bottom than the more common two-litre style bottle. I’m just a little nervous that using 1 litre instead of 2 might make it a little too cramped.
The next one I build is going to be the air pump ebb and flow kind from a two litre bottle.
Question by Michele: How can a child explain hydroponics?
My son in nine years old. He has to give a current events presentation, and he would like to talk about hydroponics. I understand the concept and find it exciting. However, how can he explain it for his classmates to understand and enjoy?

I suggest beaking down the word hydropoinics to it root woods and give the meaning of each therin and build you explaination from this vein. In short your child will build up a detailed explaination of how to grow plants of any genus(species) that shall learn to thrive in his water garden through the usage of minerals, nutrients and and vitamins to enrich the growing medium (the water) in the absence of actual soil. I hope this helps you off to a nice start in your endeavors
