getting to know his chickens.
Question by katherine: Why is the military full of young small town guys and not urban guerrillas?
Obama stated so in his forum. Are they not as brave? Are they chickens? They like guns so well so why don’t they go where they can legally use them.
Give your answer to this question below!
Well, the small town white guys got treated better, and so they are more willing to fight for this country.
The “urban guerrillas” (as you put it) have been abandoned by this society. Why fight for what doesn’t care about you?
Give them a chance, and they’ll take it. But we’ve got to prove to them that we are serious about giving them a chance. If you don’t want to do so, you don’t have to do so. But don’t expect them to fight for you if you will not even bother to try to support them.
Add-on:
All the thumbs downs suggest that you guys don’t want to give them a chance whatsoever.
So there is your answer. No one stands by them, so they feel no need to stand for us. And that is why there aren’t as many from the inner city as there are from suburban areas.

I hate to say it but most people don’t get into the military because they can not pass the ASVAB test or a criminal background check. It is actually disgusting how stupid some of these city kids are. A lot of small town kids are raised by wholesome patriotic parents, with good values and morals. Not to mention the easiest way to get out of a small town is to join the military.

I think, in USA the army is a opportunity for many underprivileged people to get a good education or even a paid and interesting job with a god reputation, which are scare in the small town or country side. In big cities the people have more choice and opportunities.

Don’t worry there are plenty of gangstas in Iraq. They’ll soon be plying their trade stateside. The small town guys are there out of patriotism, the others out of a future in gangland- I saw it on the news, the tattoos, hand signs, etc. Great agenda,Republicans. Very sensible behavior. there is a sick side to this agenda that simply cannot help but arm our enemies.

Sure.
Why not?
In trying to be a ” Better man ” in time.
They start it off being with the military.
From there many of their descendant were successful in time.

First and foremost Obama obviously doesn’t know jack about the military since 1) he never served and 2) he doesn’t care about the military because we have plenty of people from cities but in the end people join the military for many different reasons most of the folks I’ve talked to from the small towns joined out of patriotism and honor and family, while people from the cities usually join for the education or to get away from a bad life and to try to get their lives on track.

I’m not sure what you’re refering to, but I do think that recently there’s been a huge increase in the number of people from urban areas joining the US military.
From my experience, the military used to be comprised mostly of people from rural areas and small towns. Then after 9/11, there was a surge of people from large cities and urban areas.
For example, when I was in Germany before 9/11, most of the guys in my MOS were from small towns and rural areas. Three years later when I go to Korea in ’04, I’ve got five guys from NYC that have never driven a vehicle before. As a Humvee Cav Scout in a deployed unit, that’s not very good. Not to mention the fact that they have absolutely no concept of how to move tactically, and are more concerned with listening to gangsta rap and trying to be bad asses with their britches hanging below their butts.
The worst part was when we’d go to a weapon’s range and we kept having to tell the gangsta wanna-be’s to hold their weapons correctly and to not to tilt them sideways. (JK)
Honestly, I think it’s great that men and women from all over are joining the military, but as a whole, I’d rather go to war with a bunch of farm boys than a bunch of city slickers who spent WAY too much time watching BET.
EDIT: The gangsta pousers who posted their answer before mine are a perfect example of what I’m talking about.

If seriously you are looking for the right answer I think the intelligent people can distinguish the difference. I can tell you, but you already know some of the known facts like of course the military turns down more than 70% of people. by the way 1 in every 4 people has been coined as being challenged in this country anyway. You could do poorly on ASVAB or not qualify medically. I’m not going to make up things as I go, and I can’t speak for anyone other than myself because I really haven’t begun to epitomize the urban guerrilla type; and should you do so; and if you ask me; I believe that most people can start to imagine stereo types of team players and individuals among the city and rural area; but how far is it doing good or bad for people to make up what they don’t know over something this important? like i said before, if you ask me, people are either book smart, dramatically-inclined, or they are hybrid, now this has alot to do with sociology and your own hero’s, but what I’m trying to bring to light is that always all people don’t care about something or they don’t have time for something, either way, your reaction is similar, and signs are blurred and words cannot rectify something that has no future value. and values are important to everyone everywhere whether or not people even know what they are or how to identify them correctly, they are apart of seeing through problems and doing things efficiently without misleading people. responsibility. people with good values and morals can live anywhere, as long as they know or have known a good teacher, but it comes with balance of mind, body, spirit, and having good nutrition and exercising mind and body is basically a perfect formula for balance. you can not even think about being apart of a team, nevermind an elite team of the military if you don’t live healthy and have that there balance already. I know people that were born and raised in the city and for the same fact of the matter, they never have patience for anything; but i just dont have patience for some things. this may seem like just a personality type but really, could anyone ever use patience in a city, or a college, or large high school or any other jungle? no, ’cause you are the man and you make the object; the object does not make you, theirfor what is patience good for then? well responsibility in knowing your role is important. but there is a nominclature of science and nature basically explaining the collective census of this country to identify the truth from the myth. All you need to do is look for it in the right places. But how do the people from the city fit into what has been dubbed “hurry up and wait” by all those who know all about the “suck?”

I would say coming from a small town, there is a little more patriotic feeling there. A lot of American flags, proud parents of military members, and being raised to believe in America and to serve this great country. Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country. Small towns support the military so much that the kids there see the military as a good, honest, living and way to get away from the farm or what ever and see the world. Which it is.
Yet when I go into a city, I see a lot less patriotic gestures. No signs in storefront windows supporting the troops, less American flags, and a general “Me Me Me” attitude of the people around me in cities. And like some one else said, more criminal records, worse educations, and higher standards to enlist now days.
Don’t get me wrong, I have a lot of buddies from cities. They are great Marines. But I witness more high quality small town/ suburban kids then city kids.

Simple : a matter of mentality.
Urban guerrillas, by definition, prefer functioning in small, tightly knit groups where influence is a matter of charisma and competence, not the fact you’ve gone to officer school or otherwise managed to get rank from faraway powers that be and an impersonal organisation.
The army is just too regulated for them. It’s nice to be able to have your weapons legally, it’s a royal pain to hae to wait to be told when, how, and on whom you may use them.
