  2. I also find myself watching the siphon for hours at a time. I don’t know
why it is so fascinating. I used the “Loop Siphon” on both of my small grow
beds, and over time, I have one of them tuned so well that I get absolutely
no dripping water at all. The siphon starts with no hesitation at all. I’m
pretty proud of myself for that one, having no prior knowledge on the
subject. Thanks for the videos. They have been very helpful. And
    entertaining!

  3. I actually pee IN the system. It helps establish the necessary bacteria
colony which feeds the system. 🙂

  4. Nifty. Water is neat! Pulling itself upward is an amazing feat. I used to
marvel at the curved pipes that the farmers would dip into the canals next
to their fields. A little twist, and BAM they would siphon the water out of
the canal, and into the rows of the field. They would have dozens of these
they could kick out of the way at any time. Let’s see some fish, Fartboy!

  7. Sounds good! Thanks man! Ive been working on a new project for about a year
that centers around aquaponics but i need a good starting point to learn
the basics. What fish do you plan to use? Id imagine Tilapia would be too
small for that tub. but you may not be going for a total food solution, so
an eating fish may not be necessary.

  9. So far, it’s been running for almost three weeks and I haven’t had to fill
anything up. I expect this will change once the heat of summer is here, but
even still, the amount you would need to “top off” the system from
    evaporation should be tiny.

  10. If you were here, I’d let you pee in the fish tank. That’s what I’ve been
    doing. Seriously.

  11. Yeah, I know exactly what you mean. It’s almost cathartic to come out in
the backyard and just listen to the system. If I feel like a need a break,
I just go out there and I almost immediately feel better from the SOUNDS of
the system. Not to mention, watching it work (almost as if by magic) is
    just as cool. 🙂

  13. Hey Jeff, can you get a pump that is powered by a solar panel with a car
battery for when the sun is not shining? Just a thought to save money by
not running the pump all the time.

  16. Me neither, Frank! I hope to start with goldfish and then drop in other
edible fish as I am able to get my hands on them.

  19. Exactly. I plan to fit a cover over the tank to help keep evaporation to a
minimal, and an occasional top off with the hose or rain water will take
    care of the rest. 🙂

  20. Yep, it took forever for me to get here, but I’m now cycling the water. I
haven’t tested the water yet for any ammonia or nitrites, but I will wait
after about a week of peeing in there before I do that. 🙂

  21. Me too! I am a pretty patient guy, so I don’t expect to put fish or plants
in the system until May. I’m just letting it run, and trying to get the
water chemistry where it needs to be by peeing in it. I am hoping that
after 3-4 weeks, I will be nearing the point of putting in plants and fish.
I can’t find any good local sources for edible fish, so I will probably
start out with goldfish for the meantime.
