THE GOVERNMENT OUTLAWED MY BACKYARD CHICKENS! (UPDATED)

www.goingorganic.weebly.com What’s up America? Are you old enough to remember backyard chickens and fresh eggs? Can you remember having a compost pile in the backyard that the chickens pecked through and kept the bug population in the yard under control? Do you remember all that rich chicken manure and that you never needed to buy any chemical fertilizers from the store? Kids today think that eggs come from the store. Chickens look like strange exotic animals to young children. Very few children ever get to chase a chicken around the coop or cuddle one in their arms. They never get to go to the nest and pick up the eggs for the kitchen. America is in a crisis! We are losing our top soil because of chemical fertilizers killing all the living worms and microbes in the soil. We are losing our heirloom tomatoes that were so red and juicy. They were sacrificed for some hybrid that was bred to be firm enough to ship across country. I called the county government to find out if I could have a backyard chickens. I wanted to start growing my own organic tomatoes. The ones that taste so rich and juicy. The more I learned about growing organic, the more I realized that 3 or 4 chickens would turn the whole yard into a fertile wonderland. I could even put the compost in their coop and they would peck and scratch and poop it into perfect fertile soil. I just wanted hens, so that there would be no roosters crowing. Hens have the quiet clucking sound that should be on those sound

  1. As far as my local government knows, mine are family pets I have 5 hens no roosters to cause problems. I would get them and go for it. Build a playhouse and have the avery screen on the backside where it can never be seen.

  2. @veggiepowered Putting them in the garage or basement sounds kind of messy.
I still want the government restrictions modified to be chicken friendly. It is important for government to allow for sustainable living.

  8. @galanie I still want the zoning updated. I want to see the government encourage sustainability. It is for security in hard times. It is a radical experience in current times to grow your own food. It is great to be able to eat more locally and not encourage the dependence on oil to ship veggies all over the world. It is time to start exploring ways to cut back on global shipping for our basic necessities. Updating your zoning laws is a way to strenghthen your local community.

  9. Heck, just get your three pullets or hens and go for it. If others have them, then that law is not being enforced. Just be sure your neighbors are ok with it so they don’t complain. I know of a lot of people that do that here in areas where the homeowners associations don’t allow them. Where you don’t have an invasive HOA, it’s legal here so long as some conditions are met.

  10. @aityadeen123 They should cover this topic in the presidential debates. I think that most Americans are completely unaware of the laws that affect their ability to live self sufficiently.

  11. well , now you can get your own sweet revenge on the 2012 elections . out of all the 2012 candidates, RON PAUL is the only one who does not support the s-510 bill , which makes it illegal to grow, share, sell any home raised vegetables or life stock, you can’t even share seeds, the following all supported it :(Barack Obama, Michele Bachmann, Herman Cain, Newt Gingrich, Rick Perry, Mitt Romney. Rick Santorum,…. ) after 2012 election the law will be really reinforced ,

  14. @geraldb4201 So it sounds like you are concerned enough to comply with construction codes, but not chickens or livestock. I hope it works out for you. In the meantime, I want zoning codes improved for chickens. I want more education about the benefits of living sustainably. I want more people encouraged to live sustainably.

  16. @pouletqueen17 Chickens can be wonderful pets! They can provide much entertainment and affection and don’t forget about the “relaxing” clucking sounds! The fresh eggs are an amazing bonus!

  17. Glad you made a video about this. I love chickens and think people dont realize their true pet value. I love having free range eggs from my pets. Some laws are just wrong. It’s depressing.

  19. @johnnyangel26 That probably works for a certain percentage of people. If you live far enough out on enough space with the right neighbors, etc. I have seen just as many examples of people that the county penalized for breaking the restrictions. I may be old fashioned, but I still want to have a voice in the government. I guess I still have some hope that government can represent the people. That may be too optomistic, but I hope not. I do agree with you on “voting them out”.

  20. @GoingOrganic1 I think what Dave is trying to say is that if someone asks for “permission” they can be told no. If someone doesn’t ask then how can they say no? In other words.. We all need to start acting like grown ups and stop asking mommy government for permission.. I know it’s a “radical” idea, but we need to adopt this attitude that they do not rule over us. Stop paying traffice fines etc… They have gone too far, we need to reel the assholes in by voting them out. R3EVOLUTION in upon us!

  21. @Pavlovafowl That is a good idea. I believe that some community gardens are set up like that in this country. I don’t live in the city, so I believe that the chickens should qualify for my backyard. We have a big yard and would love to compost using the chickens. I enjoyed your chicken video and posted it here.

  22. @GoingOrganic1 Good Luck! Just a thought but I know in the UK where people can not have backyard chicks at their home, they sign up for an allotment/social garden and put them on there. It’s very easy for us everyone here has animals and gardens.

  23. @Pavlovafowl Moving on to a more organic area sounds nice. Sometimes moving on is not an option. I believe that government should work to make life better for citizens and not the other way around. I hope to see more change in this area eventually. If we keep asking for change, it will happen.

  24. Big Government and Big Business want you to buy everything. When you start doing things for yourself they lose money. Ask yourself, in your area, how many shops do you have where you can buy useful things e.g wool, fabrics, proper hardware stores, fishmongers and butchers? The flipside is organics are bringing it all back and your option in the end may be to move to where the area is already more organic. We did ten years ago we have a whole flock of chicks. Sometimes you have to move on
