25 Responses to Great ways to store your FOOD STORAGE! Part 1- Canning
Love the storage rack! It similar to a spice shelf that allows you to SEE
the jar your looking for instead of trying to peer over other jars.
Very impressive storage, great to see all that protein that you have canned
yourself! I am striving to have a storage like yours. Thank you for the
inspiration!

You could also use fabric inserts for to cover and if you really wanted it
dark, line the back with blackout lining.
Well done, comming up with a storage list is harder than people think. You
did very well at use of space and organization of all your food stores. I
always enjoy see how others do and mirror that up to my own plan…..well
done!
Well done ! I thought I had a organize storing system but girl you put me
to shame. I am not to be out done, soooo. I will reorganize. Thank you so
much for all the great idea’s
Love the cabinet with just the baking supplies…fyi…you can freeze the
Crisco, because it doesn’t contain any water it will not freeze solid, can
be used right out of the freezer without waiting for it to thaw. Also
increases the life of the product. Sure you know but some don’t . Blessings
what is the shelf life in “canned” dehydrated food? and have you ever had
anything go bad? im just starting and would like to start off right…any
suggestions or tips?
I have been blessed and have never had a faulty batch! The only time I ever
had a jar not seal was when my best friend that thinks she knows everything
over filled my jars with apple pie filling! You have to make sure you
follow all the rules! Period! If you can do that, you will have no issues!
Now that being said the guidelines for shelf life is one year. Many of my
jars of food have lasted way longer! Keep the in a cool dark place and you
will not have issues.
The beauty about the jars in you are able to see your products appearance.
If you are pressure cooking stay away from the cheaper jars! Use the Kerr
or Balll brand they are made to withstand the high pressure. If you are
water bathing or storing things like rice you are fine with the cheaper
jars. Purchase the Ball or Kerr book. It is well worth the money and take
the time to read the instructions. Once you start watch some videos. If you
have any questions please feel free to ask! Blessings
Most dehydrated foods stored in canning jars will last for years if they
are dehydrated well and the oxygen is removed from the jars either with a
vacuum sealer – like a food saver with the mason jar lid attachment and
hose – or with oxygen absorbers. Some dehydrated foods, like avocado aren’t
worth the time. Do your research. Youtube is a great resource.

Not bulging! Just not air sealed! I constantly rotate my dried ingredients.
The jar you thought you saw bulging is the jar out front. Meaning I use it!
These are all dry jars. Nothing liquid! As far as laying on there sides and
BPA… I think I am going to die from smog before I die from a jar or can
that has a lid that might be BPA! As far rings go… I monitor my jars and
also rotate my product. I have literally been canning for years and by far
not a novice! Blessings

Thanks for the response! Yes, makes more sense because it’s rice! I
question the rings for two reasons, sealing of the jars, and cost of buying
all those bands. Thanks for taking the time and effort to share info and
your experience.
Great ideas. I was wondering where I could come up with some extra storage
space and now I realize there is storage all over my house.

Very interesting, and I know you mean well, but… The wine rack storage is
way in appropriate. First off you are storing the cans on their sides, all
of those lids contain BPA, so the less contact with the food the better.
Second, you are storing with the canning rings on, which is a big no-no.
Look at the quart jar of rice, the lid is actually bulging, which is a very
bad sign. Yes, go look at it. Store canned goods with out rings to ensure
their integrity.
It really does work well for me! Stays cool and dark!

Just a thought. You are next door to CA and the San Andreas Fault. If there
is a major quake, even is you are in eastern AZ you will be affected. I’d
move the Jars to a lower shelf and put up something to keep them from
sliding off the shelf. Better safe than sorry. Seismic activity is
increasing everywhere too, on a yearly basis. We had quite a few in Reno in
2008, and a couple doing some damage. Sorry, I’m rambling…. again, great
video. Thanks
