I heard some bird commotion and went to take a look, Canon in hand. Wow in the tree I just passed about 5 meters up. Bird sitting with a dead young chicken hanging from it’s claw! It allowed me to take plenty of shots! Not to sure if it’s a Shikra.

Question by Blue Red: can i feed my dog raw chicken ?
can i feed my dogs raw chicken wings/drumsticks and about the bones can they actually swallow the bone and if they do won’t the sharp pieces of the raw chicken bone hurt the dogs insides ?. and do i have to clean the meat like rinse the chicken before i give it to them .

  3. People do give dogs raw meat but a lot of times it can easily carry bacteria, so it’s risky. And yes bones of any kind especially chicken bones can splinter and get stuck in the dog’s intestines.

  4. In the wild, dogs would eat squirrels and birds and things, so they could possibly eat chicken. However, chicken BONES are the worst for dogs because a splintered part can get lodged in their digestive tract. So they could also possibly DIE!

It’s best to just feed them dog food, but if you feel you need to give them chicken, take it off the bones first.

  5. Never feed cooked bones of any type to your dog. Cooking dries out the bone making it brittle and likely to splinter when chewed on. Raw chicken is fine to feed dogs, preferably free-range if available. These days chickens are processed very young and the bones are still quite soft and easy to digest. The only time you need to be cautious is if you have a greedy dog who swallows his food without chewing it up into manageable sized pieces. If your dog is like this you can chop through the pelvic bone of the chicken with a cleaver or large knife to reduce the risk of him swallowing it whole.

Dogs have thrived on raw food for thousands of years and have a much ‘tougher’ digestive system then we do. When was the last time you saw a pack of wolves in the drive-through lane at KFC ordering a family pack!?

  6. Absolutely you can feed raw chicken. A raw diet is about as close to a dogs natural diet as you’re going to get.

If you’re going to feed a raw diet as the main diet… it needs to be correctly balanced. There’s an exact ratio that you need to follow consisting of raw meat, bones, and organs. It’s called a “BARF” diet.

Dogs have completely different digestive systems than humans. A dogs digestive system is designed to digest raw foods.

  7. If u live on a farm or something I guess it’s ok. The dog might start getting that into habit and i dont think that’s good for them.
If u buy it u never know wat can ce in it. It is cretin that some actually have parachute . Just by washing it might not be enough. Just boil the chicken or sOmetging and not raw. Idk y u would want to try that but ok anyways we r animals too. Raw chicken wouldn’t be good off us do idt it is for them too

  8. Sigh

Yes, your dog can eat raw chicken, bones and all. A raw diet consists of 80% muscle meat, 10% bone, and 10% liver and other organs.

COOKED bones splinter, not raw ones.

There is a lot more to it than just giving wings and drumsticks.

  9. To be on the safe side I wouldn’t. There is a lot of difference between “raw” as in you just killed it, and have plucked the feathers off and gutted it yourself, and “raw” from the store.

Store bought raw chicken has been through a lot of handling and processing, and you run the risk that it has been contaminated.

Safest bet to to boil it too death. That’s what I do for my dogs. As for what kind of raw meat is good, as in you are sure it won’t make them sick. Well sometimes I treat my dogs to deer meat that is raw. But I shot it, gutted it, skinned it, cut it up, so I have little doubt about the sanitary conditions under which it was processed.

Best of luck, and have a great day!

EDIT: When I say boil it, I don’t mean to imply that boiled bones are good for your dog. Feed it to your dog without the bones.
