Why do indian american kids do so well in Spelling Bee?
Question by 1s 2s 2p 3s 3p 4s 3d 4p 5s 4d: Why do indian american kids do so well in Spelling Bee?
To answer my own question i think indian american kids are tutored by their parents the indian script (hindi, telugu marathi etc) in which words are pronounced the same way as they are written. These kids make use of the indian equivalent for the phonems of words in english while they study spelling.

I believe the point you made is very valid. Also consider the culture. Very work and income oriented, parents push children to succeed, because they had to hustle to succeed themselves. Indians are very family oriented and spend a lot of time raising their children to be the best that they can be. Desi culture values education highly.

The Indian American kids (most) can’t even read/write any kind of Indian scripture. It’s just that their parents push them into working harder for something. And also, Indians and Pakistanis have a knack for memorizing things. It’s like it’s in their blood or something.
