Question by Titantic: How do I get my dog to stop jumping the fence?
My dog is a nearly seven month old black lab mix. We live in the suburbs, and all the houses have fenced in backyards. These fences are about three feet tall. My dog, Kipper jumps the fence into other people’s yards. He only does this when we take the other dog out of the yard by himself, and sometimes when we are not home. The other dog does not do this.

Is there anyway to train Kipper out of jumping the fence without the use of electronic equipment?
We cannot make the fence higher, use an electric fence, or use an electric collar.

  2. you can either build a bigger fence, or try to teach him a way to not jump the fence, labs r good learners

  4. I would have to say DONT get a electronic fence cause he/she could get electracuted and maybe die just by that so build a bigger fence or tie him up with a long lesh at less he can run but not long enough for him to reach the fence
    HOPE IT HELPED

  5. There are many types of fencing are available in the market .Choose one which suites to your garden to prevent to stop your dog to jump.In my opinion bamboo fences and electric fence are good.

  6. Make your fence higher 🙂

Or just take the time to really discipline him where Kipper will always be responsive to your commands

  8. Chicken wire, wooden stakes and a heavy duty staple gun will do the trick!

Hammer 1 inch by 1 foot wooden stakes onto the fence every 3 feet.

Now staple chicken wire to the wooden stakes.

You can leave the chicken wire upright (if neighbors don’t complain) or bend it down towards your yard. It will create a ‘ceiling’ and your lab will not jump it.

This is what we had to do to keep our black lab in our backyard – and it worked!

It’s the cheapest way to remedy your problem.

    Good Luck!

  9. Bare with me on this. I have a Black Lab my self and man can she jump, but i have taught her not to. What you need to do it work with him by having a neighbor or friend bring another dog over and have it on the other side of the fence and when he starts to jump or does, yell NO!!!! and reinforce it by either having a shock collar or smacking a rolled up news paper on your hand. Don’t hit him but most dogs are just scared by the noise. Now, also every time he is just standing there and looking at the other dog or person and he is being good give him a treat. You’ll need to do this over a few weeks. do that with you being right there, then move to you being inside and him out. If he tries to jump go out and yell NO!! and if not after about 2-3 mins give him a treat. Lengthen the time little by little. I train my dog for hunting and my friends dogs for hunting and positive reinforcement and a some discouragement by yelling go a long way. Now you also need to go in strides, only about 5 to 10 mins at a time while training him and then reward him for his hard work by playing ball or a nice walk. Best of Luck!
