Is there a route from NJ (Newark) into NYC via a car without paying tolls?
Question by Michell: Is there a route from NJ (Newark) into NYC via a car without paying tolls?
So they just raised the toll in the Holland tunnel to $ 12.00!! I did just purchase an EZ pass to lower that cost, but the pass won’t get here in time to avoid my initial travel into the city via the “regular” route. Is there another way to get into NYC without paying tolls from New Jersey? Like, for example, is it possible to get over to Brooklyn and then double back over the Brooklyn bridge? OK Locals, help a poor single mom out — Thanks! 🙂

Unfortunately, no. The only thing I can tell you is if you don’t want to $ 12 each way take the PATH train into the City and then the subway from World Trade Center to your final destination.
Good luck

no. cheapest way avoiding tolls is going across tapanzee bridge to the bronx, then crossing the bridge over to 207 st (Fordham Rd in Bx) or 135st (Willis Ave Bridge) or macombs Bridge by 161st. But if you’re not in Northern NJ the gas alone is not worth it.

I know you feel. All Hudson River and Staten Island River Crossing (Bayonne, Goethals, Outerbridge Crossing) operated by Port Authority of NY & NJ, and also increase its PATH fare to $ 2.00 from $ 1.75.
PATH trains has Smartlink Card which you need to buy $ 5 blank card.
After that, at PATH Vending Machine, you could purchase:
1-Day $ 6.25.
7-Day $ 21.00
30-Day $ 65.00
Smartlink Cards are not good for MTA or Bee-Line system, which needs MTA MetroCard.
MTA MetroCard:
1-Day Fun Pass is no longer available- Regular MetroCard will be best choice depends how many trips you make.
7-Day: $ 29.
7-Day Express Bus: $ 50
14-Day: No longer available. Consider buying 7-Day or 7-Day Express Bus Plus.
30-Day $ 104.

There is no way. Sorry. The Tappan Zee Bridge also has a toll. However, on the Tap, the George and the Verrazano, the toll is collected only one way.
