Question by Eva: Do you have any tips on getting rid of the rabbits digging holes in my back yard?
We have a fenced yard. Spring is around the corner. Those rabbits or similar creatures love digging holes along the fence inside the yard. Since the snow is still melting and it is pretty muddy back there, I havent got a chance to check out what exactly the holes for. I assume they are making their offsprings, which is even worse. I need help to get rid of them. Especially, I plan to have a garden in the backyard this summer. Thanks.

Rabbits woldn’t dare come in my yard because of my ferocious cat, Puff….so you might want to get a dog or cat.

Put chicken wire down around your fence and cover it with dirt. Or an easier solution is to get a big dog

Rabbits don’t like dried blood, you can purchase it in your local garden center, but you may have to spread it again after a rain.
If your yard is fenced how are they getting in ?……Are you sure it’s rabbits…….they don’t usually dig big holes,,,,,,but Groundhogs DO! they can also scale your fence on either side. If that’s the case the only to rid yourself of Groundhogs is a 22 or if that’s not feesible use a live trap and trap them, use some bait like an apple cut up or a carrot to get them in to it. . once you trap them you can either shoot them or take em far away and release them, but check your local laws, some states prohibits transporting and releasing nusiance animals.
If it’s rabbits, get them out by shooting them or trapping them and then close off the underside of your fence by chicken wire burried a few inches below your soil line all around, You can try to get them out by also using the dried blood but this is only a temorary solution until you put up the chicken wire around the base of your fence.

What I do for raccoons, deer and rabbits, etc., is sprinkle red pepper flakes on my plants. The only problem is that you have to reapply after the rain.
In terms of holes, unless they are in an area where they will cause structural instability, I let them alone, after all, the critters were there first. But there are a few ways to deal…
Refill the holes – they will probably just dig them out again, but if you “treat” the ground with pepper, garlic and soap they will likely leave that spot alone and just dig a new hole elsewhere.
Put chicken wire or hardware cloth over the hole – which means that they will just tunnel in from elsewhere.
Your best bet is to just learn to love them or get a big dog – who will dig holes.
