If you’re draining through a tank bottom you can use bulkhead fittings, or
make your own. On our large system, the drainage system is largely made
from scratch, including many of the flow-through and drainage elements. For
instance, in our system, we run our outflow pipe into our cleanout system
and then through the sidewall of a piece of 4 inch PVC. It’s jerry-rigged
into place with hose clamps, glue and lots and lots of silicone caulk.
Sometimes you just have to make it yourself. 🙂

were do you get the fittings for bottom of the tank were the pipe goes thru
?
I must admit you lost me for a bit, then when looking at the small system i
got it. 🙂 This is a way of plumbing a SLO with the water exiting the
bottom of the tank. The other SLOs i’ve seen have been IBC systems with the
water exiting form the side of the tank using a T running from open air at
the top to the bottom of the tank. Thanks for the great vid.
Do you have any other small backyard designs like the barrel one at the end
of the video? I’d love to see some more small systems like that one. Or if
you want to make another video on how you set that system up….that’d be
cool.
Do you sell your tilapia fingerlings? I live in Evanston, Wyoming and was
wondering if I could schedule a tour and maybe purchase some fish and cut
down on some shipping? lol Do you recommend a good fish farm to purchase
from that is close by? Thx again for your response Nate, it gave me the
confidence in knowing I am moving in the right direction with my system!

Hi Samy, we’ll keep that in mind for the next video. Maybe we’ll put
together one on specific fittings.

An actual look at all the fittings would have made this a better video. I
still don’t understand how this works.

The hobby system looks like a good learning tool. Probably serves well for
doing water quality calibrating as a system matures.

I wonder, what is the gap distance in between these two vertical pipes
generally?
