  1. I dont like to use smoke because it actually terrifies the bees because
they think it is a fire. They dont really get pacified at all in fact they
are in panic so they try to protect the inner hive and dont fly. We tried
to remove them with a gentle brush and they didnt seem to get hurt. We only
took a little honey so hopefully there didnt mind!

  2. Personally i’d sweep back in to the hive, but the queen is quite unlikely
to be hanging around on capped honey.

  3. How can you be sure you didn’t brush the queen off the comb away from the
    hive?

  4. @AwakenedLifeProject Thanks for the answer! I am new to the topic but
definately interested in it as well as in permaculture and community
living. I saw your website and felt in tune with your philosophy and ideas.
I am a frequent visitor to benfeita area as a part of my family comes from
there (although I live in Lisbon now), so it would be a pleasure to meet
you and your project in person sometime! Wish you the best!

  6. Good to know that you are engaging in organic beekeeping and leave enough
honey for their winter but I have to ask: why you didn’t use smoke to scare
the bees away instead of removing them mechanically. It seemed that it was
    a bit aggressive to them

  7. I was wondering the same thing…If he is going to use a brush instead of
smoke, why not brush them back into the hive instead of into the ground?!?
