Alot depends on the color and type of worm you’re speaking of. It could have come from a human or a pet, but likely its an intestinal worm. Easily treated in both humans and animals alike… and not horribly unusual though it might seem really gross. Good luck!
Check your ceilings throughout your house. I do not know what they are called, but have had them. If I am right, you will find what looks like a string-type spider web hanging from your ceiling, but it is actually a lot of these little worm type creatures all joined together…end to end. If you have brushed against any, they could get on you without you even knowing it.
Kestryl is right, in that it’s not as unusual as it might seem.
About one in four humans world-wide have some form of intestinal worm. Part of this is due to the over use of antibiotics creating resistant strains of what were once normal organisms in our bodies.
A good colon cleanse will serve you regardless of the appearance of worms or not. Once you complete a cleanse its a matter of maintenance from that point on.
Unfortunately, most ‘medical practitioners’ will recommend poisons and de-wormers that can do more long-term damage and may not address the cause.
I might add that it also could depend on where the worm seemed to have come from. Your skin, hair, legs, arms, anywhere else?
I’ve been researching a condition wherein worms are one component, if you are experiencing other ‘odd’ symptoms like itching, rashes, infections, (there’s a long list), feel free to e-mail me.
There are a number of natural remedies that will help you with this condition.
It sounds like a pinworm. A pinworm infestation is almost always accompanied by a lot of itching around the anus. The female worm comes out at night to lay her eggs there, and the eggs cause the itching.
Get some clear (not opaque) cellophane tape and a glass microscope slide. First thing in the morning, press the sticky side of the tape around your anus, then press the tape onto the slide. Take it to your doctor or a lab that he/she recommends. If pinworm eggs are detected, you can be easily treated. Don’t forget to wash your hands and scrub well under your nails, both after the test and before all meals.

Hate to tell you this, but they could be coming from your intestines. Save the next one and show it to your doctor.
