Question by Sofia: Thinking of getting a goat in a trailer park?
I’m looking into getting a small breed of goat, preferably a pygmy. I live in a trailer park but we DO have outside space. Its not the largest backyard but I do plan on taking it out a lot for exercise and play time. I only barely started looking into this and any advice or tips on keeping it happy and healthy would be helpful. If you believe this wouldn’t be a good environment for it please state why, I do want it but I’m not going to keep one if it wouldn’t be to the best of its benefit. And yes, I have looked into the laws of keeping goats in my area and its completely ok and the owner of the trailer doesn’t mind either. Thank you!

  1. As long as you have the time and the money to take care of it then it might be okay. The proper feed and space for such an animal can be very expensive.

I’m not sure about pygmy goats, but the boer goats I used to take care of were extremely social animals, not solitary, so getting just one might be cruel.

As for the environment, larger is better and also the cleaner the better. You don’t want debris, fertilizers or anything harmful around your animal.

My overall answer would be don’t get one, maybe build a chicken coop? They require less room and resources and provide fresh eggs! Just a thought 🙂
