Because bees around the world have been dying. It has been a real concern both for the honey industry and agriculture because of their impact on pollination.

there are hardly any bees
when was the last time you saw bees in your yard last spring/summer? I havent seen bees in seriously 2 yrs…

Colony collapse. For some unknown reason bees are suffering from colony collapse. (unknown yea right POLLUTION). No bees….no honey.

sudden hive death….all over North America, caused by a mite that has been introduced from overseas. this has happened before ( in the 50’s I think) it is a crisis at this time, but state and national agriculture depts have made it a high priority and headway is being made and funds are available to start more hives and keep bee entomology growing

It’s called colony collapse disorder and it is very frightening. Without bee’s our whole food chain will collapse, and no one really knows what is happenning to the worker bees, they just leave and don’t come back.
The answer to your question is actually more economical however. The price is goin up because less people are actually keeping bees because the prices are so low that it does not pay enough to raise honey, which of course exaserbating the collapse problem.
I am considering starting a hive in my back yard. I hope that many people will follow suite. Even if you do not want to keep bee’s you should really try to buy local honey. Most bee keeperes have a sign in their yard. Stop and buy some.

The BEE’s are using too much gasoline to get where they need to go to get the pollen. LOL
not really, whatever is driving prices up, I am certain that it has to do with oil prices. plus, I know it also have to do with global warming…they are not producing enough honey, honey
